A trip to Lonavala, Pune for Christmas break? Sounds excellent. But first let's take a break at Solapur for the famous, lip-smacking Solapuri delicacies! Yum!
Being the hungry, avid but frolicking travelers that we always are, a decision to break at #Solapur, enroute to #Pune wasn't a surprising decision.
What was surprising however, was the way we, me and my friend Ankur, spent the hours there!
From booking a bookie to book a bus, to hopping into the luggage space of autos to reach our destination. And let me tell you, painful experiences both! If you're a gentleman, book a cab and drive around. It will save you a lot of haggling with auto-walas!
If you're a budget traveler or you want to immerse yourself in the feel of a local place, walk the streets talking to the Solapur localites, asking for local autos/buses! Or, as I learned, the Marathis say, "Bus thamba kutthe aahe?"
A quaint little town, famous for its cotton chadder, handloom and powerloom garment industries. Solapur, or as name translates to - the 16-villages, is a perfect weekend destination for people of Maharashtra looking for a quick and serene getaway from the hustle bustle of city-life.
But the highlight of the small stop was at the local restaurants, the day ended with me & Ankur tasting the famous Solapuri Chicken, kadak bhakari, thecha, shenga chutney, and the Marathi local delicacy, #MisselPav! Lip smacking delicious!
So the next time, you are at a restaurant in Maharashtra, and the name 'Solapuri Chicken' catches your eye on the menu, take my word for it and order it! You will not be disappointed!
And thus started our first foray into the land of the Marathis! Onwards to Pune! Chhan ahe!
